Culture is an intangible asset and a treasure of every city. It is also an indicator of a city’s living standards. In the turbulent and ever-changing world we live in today, culture is the only asset that continues to offer food for thought and spiritual comfort. To take it to the next level, it could also be said that the cultural industry creates economic value for our society.
However, cultural work does not reap instant results. Cultural influences infiltrate our society in small steps. Therefore, the Cultural Affairs Bureau has organized a series of cultural events for the city for the benefit of our citizens. In addition to regular art exhibitions, performances, speeches, workshops, seminars, and book reading events, the Bureau has also hosted many large international shows and performances featuring the celebrated musician Yoyo Ma and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra as well as jazz festivals and the Brazil Carnival. We also place great emphasis on promoting cultural activities at the grassroots level. Through the collective effort of the city government, schools, and local communities, we hope to bring culture and art closer to our citizens and help them to appreciate the beauty of art and culture.
Rich and diverse cultural and art experiences are prerequisites to satisfactory quality of life. We must treasure and preserve our heritage to present the best of what our land has to offer to our citizens. With our distinctive city culture and high-quality citizens, I am sure Taichung City shall soon make its name on the international stage.
