【Description】
Alcedo atthiss distribute in Chung Hsing University and Han Stream in Beituen and Bei Chius. Clean and clear water of rivers, ponds, and canals is their favoriate habitat, where their nests are built. Their appearance is bright, with bright blue from their backs to tails, green wings with blue spots, orange at the inner part of their wings and belly, a white spot on the necks, and red legs. They live on fish, frogs, small reptiles, and insects. They make continuous “Gi” sound when flying. They are typical middle-sized waterside birds characterized by long, narrow, but thick beaks, big heads, short tails, and short legs. They usually show up alone. When hunting, they usually stand on standing-out rocks or wood in the river. Their nests are usually builts at river banks or in the holes of dead trees.
