Dadu-Mountain Plateau Plateau
Dadu-Mountain 【Name of township】Shituen Chiu、Nantuen Chiu
【Types of terrain】plateau
【Description of terrain】
Dadu-Mountain Plateau is a northeast-southwest oriented rectangle, about 20 kilometers long and 7 kilometers wide, located in the west of Shituen and Nantuen Chius of Taichung City. This plateau is not symmetric in terms of height and slope. The slope of its western course is higher than its eastern one; most slopes have grades less than 15 degrees except for the 30 degrees of the northwestern and southwestern parts. The peak of the plateau is 307 meters high, and inclines downward toward the east, where Taichung City is located. The plateau is bounded by Houli Plateau and Sanyi Plateau in the north, and Wu Stream and Bagua Plateau in the south.
【Types of geology】red soil、gravel、sandstone、mudstone
【Geological description】
Dadu-Mountain Plateau is covered with red soil averaging 4.6 meters thick on the surface level; beneath are a layer of gravel averaging 43 meters thick, and a layer of sandstone. Red soil near Taichung Industry Area is low plastic non-organic clay. The deeper the ground, the denser the red soil is. Sandstone near the southwest side of the Dadu Mountain averages more than one meter thick, with conglomerate on top in some areas; the deeper the ground, the more there is mudstone. The mudstone is quite dense but far from lithification. Hence, it still can be molded and compressed, like clay.
