Liquidambar formosanas are native tree of Taiwan, distributed from sea level up to the altitude of 1000 meteres. They like sun light and can grow up to 20 meters tall. They are good as garden and street trees, as well as cultivated trees in plant pots. Their wood could be used to grow mushrooms. The Dakeng Roundabout Liquidambar formosana is located on Dongshan Rd. It is about 16 meters tall and 180 years old. In 1971, its trunk broke, and its bottom part started to rot. As a result, it would have died without a three-year curing process. Since it grew fast, transportation passing by were usually influenced by it. As a result, a roundabout was built to surround it to resolve this problem. |
