【Description】
National
Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, opened in 1988, used to be called
Taiwan Provincial Museum of Fine Arts before 1999. It is
composed of the following divisions: exhibition, collection,
promotion, research, library and information, and administrative
departments. It aims to preserve culture, promote art, improve
standard of living, and bridge Taiwan and the rest of the world
in terms of art. The museum is now under reconstruction and will
reopen in May 2004. The new infrastructure of the building
contains a skywalk through the building, which allows the
general public to pass through the building and visit it without
paying permission fees. This skywalk divides the building into
east and west halls established for different purposes. The east
hall focuses on research-oriented collections, research, and
exhibition; the west hall provides space for general
exhibitions, and contains an educational center. This is a
museum with both academic and recreational purposes.
