After graduating from National Taiwan University, Porung Lin taught at National Taichung High School University. In 1971, he founded Li Zen High School. In 1981, he was elected Mayor of Taichung City. Later, he won a few more times for the same position, and had been on the position for the longest period of time so far. He was totally devoted to his work as a mayor and contributed significantly to Taichung City.
