Shen-Cie Jhang’s life was full of stories. In 1922, when he was studying in Japan, he alone argued that Taiwan should become independent from Japan through revolution. In 1925, he founded Revolutionary Youth Group to advocate Taiwan revolution. In 1930, he switched his focus onto promoting and initiating literature, play, and culture in Taiwan. Later, he founded Taiwan Literature and Art Ally. In addition, he issued Taiwan Literature and Art Magazine, which unified great writers of the time, including He Lai, Jhuo-Liou Wu, and Yong-Fu Wu. This became the largest writer group and determined the future of Taiwan’s new literature. In 1938, he emigrated to Beijing and became a chair and professor of Beijing Professional Art School. During his whole life, he was not only a revolutionist, but also a thinker, philosopher, writer, critic, screenwriter, and director.
