【Industry category】agriculture
【Description】
Ma-Bamboo is a subtropical plant, and grows widely in warm areas with little frost in Fujian and Canton Provinces, and Taiwan. It grows fast and can live up to 40-50 years, which makes it a highly productive vegetable. It harvest peak is between May and mid-September. The major production areas are Dungshan and Mingjheng Villages of Beituen Chiu, where the land area for growing Ma-bamboo is some 900 hectares. In early spring, farmers cover it with plastic cloth to create a warm environment to it to increase production. It is a healthy food full of fiber. Hence its side products, as opposed to raw roots, are various, including dried bamboo, preserved bamboo, and canned bamboo.
