【Historical description】
At the early stage, Dung Chiu was an industrial district. Later when the economic structure evolved and the economy developed further, living standard here was improved. This area can be characterized by the following:
1. Dong-Guang Boulevard: It is located between Jiancheng Rd. and Dajhih Rd. It passes through Hansi, Lecheng, Dongmen, and Dongciao villages, lying in an L shape. It is the largest boulevard in Taichung City, with a land area of 4.779 hectares. Pavilions, chairs, and bike paths are available on the boulevard.
2. Han Stream: It passes through the east side of Dung Chiu. A cleaning and beautifying project was conducted here.
3. Taiwan Sugar Corporation-The old Taichung Factory: It was opened in 1910 during Japanese Colonial Period. Then it was discontinued in 1992. Now, it is being planned as a “creative cultural park,” which is expected to stimulate economy in this area.
4. The Lecheng Temple: Its address is No. 48, Hansi St., Taichung City. It is a holy place of Ma Buda. The building of the Lecheng Temple is more than 200 years old.
