【Historical description】
Nantuen used to be the territory of Ba-Bu-Sha Tribe, an aboriginal Pingpu tribe.  In 1684, tons of Han people immigrated from China.  Nantuen Chiu, controlling the entrance from Changhua Plain to Taichung Basin attracted many farm-tool stores, and became a center of farm tools and agricultural products.  Hence, Li-Tao-Dian Street became famous.  In 1895 when Taiwan was handed over to Japan, Nantuen Chiu was again assigned to Taichung County, Li-Tao-Dian Chiu.  In 1920, it became Taichung-Jhou, Datun County, Nantuen Village.  On February 1, 1947, it became part of Taichung City, and was renamed as Nantuen Chiu.

However, its development has been fast lately due to the 7th and 8th redevelopment districts, Nantuen Exit of Highway 1, and industrial park. As a result, more housing, population, and business have been brought in. It is now a mix of urbanized and rural lives.
