【Historical description】
Nantuen used to be the territory of Ba-Bu-Sha Tribe, an
aboriginal Pingpu tribe. In 1684, tons of Han people immigrated
from China. Nantuen Chiu, controlling the entrance from
Changhua Plain to Taichung Basin attracted many farm-tool
stores, and became a center of farm tools and agricultural
products. Hence, Li-Tao-Dian Street became famous. In 1895
when Taiwan was handed over to Japan, Nantuen Chiu was again
assigned to Taichung County, Li-Tao-Dian Chiu. In 1920, it
became Taichung-Jhou, Datun County, Nantuen Village. On
February 1, 1947, it became part of Taichung City, and was
renamed as Nantuen Chiu.
