Seal
The city seal of Taichung at present is like the
Chinese character(中) with the round shape. The
circle with the simple design represents union.
Actually, this city seal was generated by the
appraisal through the public who were invited to
participate designing when the Taichung city hall
had been built in 1921.
At that time, the whole participants have 1038
persons and artworks for appraisal are 2099. The
jury selected the 12 excellent pieces among
artworks. Then, city councilors came to the vote
again at Taichung City Council and decided to
choose the one designed by the officer of Taiwan
Railway Administration as the city seal of
Taichung. |

Distribution: Tunghai University, Fa-tsai brook,
Chung-hsing University, Ta-keng, and 5 brooks in
downtown Taichung.
Characteristics: Common bird with black beak &
legs, yellow toes, and white body. Likes to live
in groups and eat fish, frogs, and insects.
Symbolic and Humanistic Meanings:
1. White body-Pure
2. Steady steps, noble disposition, but moves
rapidly and cleverly.
3. Elegant flying gesture. |

~Palimara alstonia
The Palimara Alstonia and the Christmas Kalanchoe
were chosen by the residents of Taichung City in
1988 as the city tree and the city flower. Through
the diligent cultivation over many years, the
Palimara Alstonia is the most popular cultivated
plant in our city.
Gardening Classification: Evergreen Big Tree
Country of Origin: India & Philippines
Characteristics: With umbrella-shaped crown,
straight trunk, neat and elegant figure, being the
graceful appreciative tree of gardening with
shadows. Propagation period is from spring to
summer, and the method is by spreading the seeds
or cutting.
