【History】
The history of Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor Cooperation/The Old Fifth Winery
was complicated in terms of its ownership and names. It was the former
private Dajheng Winery, Ltd. in the Japanese Colonial Period, which was
built in 1916. This private company was then handed to the Japanese
Government in 1922, and renamed Taiwan Administration, Bureau of Tobacco
and Liquor, Taichung Branch. After World War II when Japan gave up the
sovereignty of Taiwan, this Taichung branch was renamed as the Fifth
Winery in 1947. The current name was finalized in 1957. In 1998, the
winery was relocated to the Taichung Industry Park. Later the original
site was declared as a historical site by Taichung City Government.
【Characteristic 】
In Japanese Colonial Period, Taichung Winery was famous for brewing rice wine and Seishu. The buildings in the factory are for business meetings, storage, production, power, and support, all of which are historical buildings. For example, the power room of brick-and-steel structure was an example for the 1920s. The Seventh Stock is famous for its bullet holes made by attacks from airplanes of World War II Alliance. The land area of is 6.18 hectares.
