【History】
In
1905, several millionaires including Siang-Ru Wu, Sian-Rong Gu, and Sian-Tang
Lin, founded the first bank finically supported by Taiwanese-Chang Hwa
Bank. The bank was originally based in Changhua County. Later it was
moved to Taichung City in 1910 since Taichung City surpassed Changhua, and
became the largest city in central Taiwan. The current building of Chang
Hwa was built between 1936 and 1938.
【Characteristic 】
The Japanese designed Chang Hwa Bank is a splendid building, which is of Rome architectural style. It applies the features of Renaissance period on the building’s surface. There is also a long flower-waved feature on a parapet. The door on Zihyou Rd. is made of bronze, right above which is a carved title of Chang Hwa Bank. Floor, casher desks, ceilings, and large glasses on the street side are the original from the Japanese Colonial Period. Within the bank, there is a newly opened Singshih Hall, which displays history-related materials of the bank.
