【History】
Hueilai Village archaeological site was first discovered near the intersection of Shih-jhang Rd. and Hueilai Rd in Shituen Chiu, Taichung. In May 2002, Sheng-Ming Chen, a student of Tunghai University, joined by Huei-Li Cyu and Ke-Hong Liou of National Museum of Natural Science, discovered pre-historical String-Strip-Feature Clayware Culture layer near Huilai parking lot. A large follow-up investigation found that material remains scattered over an area of more than 150,000 square meters. The investigation is still being conducted.
【Characteristic 】
The culture layer of Hueilai Village archaeological site can date back to between 2,100 and 3,000 years ago. The discovered material remains can be characterized into three layers—Niou-ma-tou, Yingpu, and Fan-zai-yuan Culture layers. Niou-ma-tou Culture layer is the earliest one in central Taiwan, which existed during the Mid-New-Stone Era. It is characterized by String-Strip Red Clayware. Following the appearance of Niou-ma-tou is Yingpu Culture, existing beween 2,000 and 3,500 years ago. It is characterized by Grey-Black Clayware. Fan-zai-yuan Culture existed between 400 and 2,000 years ago, distributed in Dadu, Bagau Plateaus. It is characterized by wave-Feature and pin-Feature features on clayware, face-down burial, and Iron Era.
