【Constructor】The Jishan Gate was built by unknow Chinese carpenters in 1924.
【History】
Lai family used to be one of the principle families in Beituen
Chiu. During Cianlong Era of Cing Dynasty of mainland China,
the ancestors of Lai family immigrated from Jhangjhou, Pinghe
County, Sintian Village to Beituen, Taiwan. Ninth extended
family Descendants of Lai family, Sintian-Wu-Mei, started their
family at The Jishan Gate. The Jishan Gate was built in 1924,
and completed in 1927. Chongzen adopted a Chinese Architect’s
opnion to build a new gate to the south of the old onw to bring
good luck to descendants. This gate was named The Jishan Gate,
which was to encourage people to do good deeds.
【Characteristic】
The Jishan Gate has a three-spanned facade, with one more floor added above the central span. The gate was built with Cinshuei bricks. Ots roof had a Hsieh-Shan-Ting ridge. The gate wall was designed to support the whole gate. This gate was a classical building during the Japanese Colonial Period. Besides the special roof and the so-called Dougong, western-style decorations can also be found. A garden is located behind the gate, where people can find five big, old trees (Ficus Benjamina L.). The roots of the five trees are entangled tightly, which developed a story that the five brothers of the Lai families were united.
