【Description】
The appearance of Hansi Mazu Parade - Marching to Eighteen Village Festival could date back to the 1820s. At that moment, farmers in Datuen area were bothered by widespread damage on rice farming caused by insects. As a result, they went to prey for help from Hansi Mazu at The Lecheng Temple and asked her to march to their village. As Mazu reached the first village on March 1st of Lunar calendar, a heavy shower poured down in the farm, and bugs were eliminated. Later, as the march continued to another 17 villages, all the bug problems were resolved wherever Mazu went. Farmers all regarded this phenomenon as a miracle created by Mazu. To show their appreciation, Hansi Mazu Marching Eighteen Village Festival was initiated, where special ceremony was held.
【Ceremony】
Every year between March 1st and 20th of lunar calendar, Hansi Mazu marched around. People representing the local say grace and prey to initiate a parade. Each day Mazu marches to one of twenty villages composed of Dali, Wufeng, and 18 villages in Wurih, including Sia-li-zai, A-mi-li, Wu-jhang-li, Ua-yao-zai, Zan-cuo-yuan, Da-tu-liao, Ci-wang-zai, Liang-san-shu, Nei-cin-jhong. |

| The address of the Lecheng Temple is No. 48, Hansi Rd., Taichung, Taiwan.
Drivers from Highway 1 can take Jhong-Gang Exit. Then take Jhong-Gan Rd. toward downtown Taichung, which then changes into Jhongcheng Rd. After passing the elevated railway, turn left onto Hansi Rd.
Visitors from Taichung Railway Station can take Renyou Bus Route 7, or Union Bus (aka Tonglian Bus) Route 75, and get off at Hansi St. |
